Japanese Knotweed Plan

Japanese Knotwood

Surveying and controlling Japanese Knotweed

There are several ways to control Japanese Knotweed. Once the extent of infestation has been established, we can advice on the appropriate methods of control and eradication.

Herbicide Treatment Plan – Control and Eradicate Japanese Knotweed

This plan is typically required by Residential and Domestic clients and includes:

  • A fully costed Japanese Knotweed Treatment Plan detailing number of visits and the herbicide to be used

Chemical control is probably the most cost effective means of eradicating invasive weeds. Herbicide is either sprayed, injected or wiped onto the above ground part of the weed in order to kill the plant. However, in the case of Japanese Knotweed this can take many applications.

This plan has an insuranced backed guarantee. If you are planning to sell or buy a house with Japanese Knotweed you will be covered.

Full Site Survey and Japanese Knotweed Management Plan

This plan is typically required by developers and commercial organisations and includes:

  • Full description of site, mapping the extent of infestation and providing photographic evidence
  • Future use of the site
  • Management objectives
  • Risk assessment (legal and environmental)
  • Control method statement – developed from the findings of the survey and management requirements
  • Ongoing works to prevent spread
  • Information and support to ensure control
  • Full cost breakdown for the works being carried out by Connick Ground Care
  • Note: Costs for a site survey are dependent on the location as well as the size of the infestation.

The other methods of invasive weed control are:

On-site burial

Invasive weed contaminated soil can been excavated and buried on-site. This will have to be to a specified depth within a fully lined burial cell to avoid any regrowth.

On-site bund formation and subsequent chemical treatment

Invasive weed contaminated soil can be stock piled on an impermeable membrane on site. Outside of the construction/operation area. Regrowth of weeds on the bund can be controlled using chemicals for an extended period.

Off-site burial ('dig and dump')

Invasive weed contaminated soil will be excavated and removed from site. The contaminated waste must be disposed of in accordance with current legislation at an appropriate licenced site. This is generally the most expensive control method.

Connick Tree Care hold relevant and specialist qualifications including 'Certified Surveyors of Japanese Knotweed' from the Property Care Association, allowing works to be independently guaranteed.
