Summer Branch Drop

Occasionally, a large branch within the tree’s crown spontaneously fails and falls to the ground from an apparently healthy tree. This phenomenon is known as Summer Branch Drop.

It is not entirely clear what causes Summer Branch Drop. Certain tree species which have overextended branch growth appear to be more susceptible.

It’s also believed that the greater stresses put upon trees when there has been heavy rainfall followed by hot dry weather, creates higher water demands and may be an influencing factor. The weight of summer foliage and fruit could also be a contributing factor.
