How to Get a Tree Surgery Quote and What to Expect
From your first enquiry to completed work, here’s how Connick Tree Care keeps the quotation process clear and straightforward.
If you have never arranged tree surgery before, it is natural to have questions. Do you need to know exactly what work is required? Will someone visit your property? What happens if the tree is protected?
Our aim is to make the process as straightforward as possible, with clear advice and no obligation to proceed.
You do not need to arrive with a technical specification. Simply tell us what you have noticed and what you would like to achieve. Our experienced team will guide you through each stage.
The process at a glance:
- Contact us and arrange a visit.
- Meet an arboricultural manager for an on-site assessment.
- Receive a clear, fixed-price written quotation.
- Accept the quotation online or by email.
- We complete any TPO or Conservation Area checks.
- Our arboricultural team carries out the agreed work.
- Receive your invoice and tell us how we did.
Step 1: Contact us and arrange a visit
Start with a phone call, email or online enquiry. You can describe the issue in everyday language; there is no need to know the technical name of the work.
Our administration team will ask a few practical questions about the tree, its location and access.
We will arrange a convenient appointment for an arboricultural manager to visit.
You will receive a two-hour arrival slot, and we will contact you if an unforeseen delay occurs.
Your next step: Tell us what you have noticed and provide the property address. Photographs are helpful, but optional. They can help us understand your enquiry before visiting, but they won’t replace a site assessment.
Step 2: Your on-site assessment
Every tree and every site is different. The visit allows us to understand the tree, the surroundings and the outcome you are looking for before we price the work.
- Visually inspect the tree or trees and discuss your concerns.
- Advise on condition, health, safety and appropriate management options.
- Assess access, nearby buildings, gardens, roads, overhead services and other site constraints.
- Identify any visible pests, diseases or defects before preparing a clear work specification for your quotation.
Your next step: Ask questions and confirm any access, parking, neighbour or timing issues that may affect the work.
Professional advice comes as standard
A quotation visit is more than a pricing exercise. In some cases, the best recommendation may be less work than expected, a different form of pruning or a phased approach that better protects the long-term health and appearance of the tree.
Step 3: Receive a detailed, fixed-price quotation
Following the visit, we will prepare a written quotation setting out exactly what we recommend and what is included.
We normally email your quotation within two working days of the site visit.
The work specification is written clearly so you can understand what will be carried out.
Removal of branches, timber and green waste is included unless the quotation states otherwise or you ask us to leave logs or woodchip.
Questions can be raised by phone or by replying to the quotation email and quoting the job reference.
Your next step: Review the specification as well as the price. Contact us before accepting if anything needs further explanation.
Step 4: Accept your quotation
When you are ready to proceed, accept the quotation online or by email using the unique job reference.
Our office team will record your acceptance and explain the next stage.
For larger or more complex work, specialist access, traffic management or other arrangements will be coordinated where they have been identified and included in the agreed quotation.
Your next step: Accept online or reply to the quotation email, quoting the job reference.
Step 5: We carry out the legal checks
Once the quotation has been accepted, we check whether the tree is protected by a Tree Preservation Order or stands within a Conservation Area.
TPO and Conservation Area checks are completed free of charge and normally take around three working days.
If controls apply, we will explain what is required and submit the relevant application or notice on your behalf.
Where permission is required, we’ll arrange a suitable work date once it has been granted or the required notice period has expired.
Local authority decision times are outside Connick’s control and can affect the eventual work date.
Your next step: No additional paperwork is normally needed unless the local authority requests proof of ownership or other supporting information.
Why the checks happen after acceptance
The work specification must be agreed before a reliable application can be submitted. Completing the checks after acceptance ensures that the application reflects the exact work you have instructed and protects you against unauthorised tree work.
Step 6: The day of the work
Your arboricultural team will arrive at the agreed time, introduce themselves and confirm the work specification before starting.
- Establish a safe working area and protect property, planting and surrounding spaces.
- Carry out the agreed work using appropriate equipment and safe working methods.
- Minimise disruption and keep you informed if site conditions require a change of approach.
- Remove debris and leave the work area clean and tidy.
- Check that you are satisfied with the completed work before leaving.
Your next step: Keep the agreed access clear and move fragile garden items, vehicles or furniture where requested.
What happens to the timber and branches?
Unless you have asked us to leave logs or woodchip, arisings are removed from site and responsibly processed. Materials are reused wherever possible as biomass fuel, logs or mulch, reducing waste and supporting renewable energy generation.
Step 7: Invoice and feedback
Once the work is complete, the final administration is kept just as straightforward.
- Your invoice will be sent by email.
- Payment can be made online by card or over the telephone.
- You will have the opportunity to provide feedback. Your comments help us maintain and improve our customer service.
Your next step: Pay using the details shown on the invoice and let us know how we did.
