Appledurcombe House, Isle of Wight
English Heritage
This striking photo was taken whilst undertaking annual safety works at Appledurcombe House on the Isle of Wight. Appledurcombe House is one of the properties covered under our Arboricultural contract with English Heritage.
The tree is a very large mature Oak, which had an asymmetrical crown. We needed to rebalance the crown and remove any major dead wood.
To reach the top of the tree we used a throw line and bag to create the anchor point.
You can see Cameron in the photo at the mid-point of his ascent!. He’s using a foot ascender and ‘zig zag’ friction device to reach his anchor point at the top of the tree.
The equipment is specialised and part of our standard issue. It is just one of several ways to get into a tree.
