68m vehicle with 143 tonne transformer

We hope your journey wasn't delayed due to the 68 metre long vehicle transporting a transformer weighing 143 tonnes.

The journey started on Friday 17th August at 7pm from Tilbury Docks in Essex, stopping for 24 hours at Clacket Lane Services before resuming its journey and finally reaching the destination, a substation in West Weybridge at 6am on Sunday 19th August.

The movement of the transporter and huge vehicle was managed by Ale, who are experts in heavy transportation and lifting.

Clearing branches along the way and trees at the final destination

A team from Connick Tree Care, managed by Stuart with team leader Mark and Matthew, followed the vehicle clearing a line of trees to allow the transformer access to the final resting place.

We also helped lift BT cables with the use of our MEWP (mobile elevating work platform).

The equipment will be installed at the substation to help National Grid continue to deliver electricity to homes and businesses across the South and beyond.

Once the transporter had reached its final destination, Rob Bailey, Routing Logistics Coordinator at Ale, said to Stuart, "please pass on a big thank you to all the guys involved it was a great job well done. Connick provided a first class service."
